Program
The Willis College Personal Support Worker program was developed by the Ontario Government’s popular demand to reform long term care and community support services. This single standardized program replaces, and consolidates the Health Care Aide and Home Support Worker I, II and III. It provides a solid educational base for workers in long term and support services for Community and institutional facilities.
Students will learn to assist with the duties of everyday living in all types of settings. Their attitudes as well as their abilities for the clients are required for each and every person they support.
Excellent job opportunities are expected for this occupation, as rapid employment growth and high replacement needs produce a large number of job openings.
Personal Support Workers are an important part of the health care team. The Personal Support Worker Program enables you to develop skills required to provide personal support services to patients and their families, clients and residents in the community, at home, in hospitals and in long-term care facilities. Services provided by the PSW include assistance in routine daily living activities; mobility; personal care and hygiene; ongoing medical conditions and medications; and management of household activities
Career Opportunities: Personal Support Workers usually work for private and not-for profit homecare agencies or the municipal government. Some are self-employed. Personal Support Workers may also work for senior citizen homes, nursing homes or hospitals. They also provide care in the homes of clients. Graduates can be employed in both private and public home care agencies, long term facilities, special needs children, senior citizen homes, hospitals, group homes and palliative and respite care centers.
